Key stats for the Premier League
This year, only three players have scored more than 20 goals in the league: Harry Kane (25), Sergio Aguero (24) and Jamie Vardy (24). A statistic, which has been very common since the early 2000’s. Kane and Aguero, who were amoung the top 3 top goal scorers last season, have once again been terrorizing opposing defenses. All 3 are considered safe bets, so do not hesitate to bet on one of these great goalscorers, this bet is often the winner.
What a phenomenal competition! With an average of 2.70 goals per game during the 2015/2016 season, the Premier League only ranks third in the top five major European leagues, behind the Bundesliga and La Liga. This is better than the previous season (2.57 goals per match) but far below the 2012/2013 season (2.80 goals per game) and 2013/2014 (2.77 goals per game). It, nevertheless, highlights that this is the most spectacular championship and the best in Europe.
The damage is usually done in the second half. During the 2015/2016 season, 55% of the goals were scored when the teams came back onto the field after half time. It’s also evident that the last fifteen minutes tend to be decisive with over 22% of all goals scored, scored during this period. Many people still believe that “Fergie Time” is a real thing that still happens and may even be a factor to this statistic!
What you need to know before you bet!
Playing away in the Premier League is not such a bad thing. Any of the teams in the top 6 can win the league towards the end of the season, look at Leicester for example, they won 58% of their away games. Other teams aren’t so comfortable playing away. The average away wins percentage for 2014/2015 season was 31%.
But despite all the goals, 143 of the 273 victories in the Premier League (52%), were by one goal. The games are often tight and it comes down to the tiniest little details. The standard has been raised quite high in this competition and so has produced the most away goals as a whole (28%) among the 5 major leagues in the world.
However, focusing only on the top four teams (Chelsea, Manchester City, Arsenal and Manchester United), the statistics are reversed. 40 of 63 victories for these teams last season were by 2 goals or more. If you fancy these heavyweights to win, try betting on handicap victory which is sometimes proposed with interesting odds!
The Premier League pits the 20 best teams of the United Kingdom against each other. In the end, the top three have direct access to the Champions League group stage. The fourth must play a qualifier.
The top 4 of the naughties has somewhat changed. Liverpool gave way to Manchester City in the top spot in English football. But the gap between the four teams was usually a lot closer. Tottenham, West Ham, Southampton and Leicester especially, took advantage of the poor form of Manchester United and Chelsea to briefly steal the top positions. With the arrival of Conte and Mourinho over the Red devils as they stir up the transfer window, no doubt that this season will be very different from the previous one!
How can we not mention Boxing Day when we talk about the Premier League. During the winter break for other European leagues, the English league is in full swing with three days of football, usually between Christmas and New Year. This period is often very important for teams looking to reach the top 3 of the Premier League. These series of matches often highlight the teams which may be able to go the distance and win the Premier League. It's a treat for all football lovers who can quietly eat their Christmas dinner while watching matches of the highest calibre.
